Make your own game
For this activity you will be creating a game in Scratch! It may seem very complicated at first, but lets take it step by step! We will be making a game of good vs. evil - heroes and villains!
Step 1- Sign up for a scratch account. Click here to go to the scratch website. Create an account and sign in - this will be where you work and save your projects.
Step 2 - Let's get started! Your new project window will look like what you see below. You can keep the cat and add another character, or delete him and add 2 new ones. Its your choice! To choose the characters click New Sprite and select the one you want to use.
Step 3 - Time for the "hard part" - You will now need to add some code to get your character to move when you use the arrow keys, as well as react when he is hit by the villain. This will be your good guy(or girl). He will be trying to avoid the other character. Look at the image and add what you see to your hero. Once you have added the code to your character, test it ! Remember that you do this by clicking the green flag.
Step 4 - Lets add the Villain! - You will now need to add some code to get your character to move randomly around the screen. You will have to avoid this one in order to survive your game. Look at the image and add what you see to your villain. Again, once you have added the code to your character, test it just like you did above.
Step 5 - Testing (1, 2, 3!) - You now should have 2 characters (hero and villain) on your screen. I suggest that you double check to see if your hero moves the way you want it to, and that your villain moves randomly. If either moves too much or too little, adjust the values to your liking.
Step 6 - Setting the Scene - The last step is to add a background to your game. You can do this by clicking stage and choosing a new backdrop from the library. Once you have done this, you are finished!
